DALLAS — Icelandic LCC PLAY Airlines (OG) has announced that from April 22, 2025, it plans to terminate its sole Canadian route to Toronto’s John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
This was confirmed by YHM’s Associate Director, Marketing, Communications & Customer Experience, Colleen Ryan, who says she “ can confirm that, unfortunately, PLAY Airlines will end its service from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport as of April 22, 2025.”
Whilst saying that the airport was “disappointed” by the decision, the Toronto airport remains “confident in the future of Hamilton International.”
PLAY Airlines operates a service from its Reykjavík-Keflavík Airport (KEF) base four times a week to YHM with its Airbus A320neo fleet. The airline debuted the route on June 22, 2023, and will cancel it two months before it turns two years old.
Ceasing the service between Reykjavík and Toronto may be a response to Play’s passenger numbers falling 13.5% in December.
The OG service's end further reduces Canada’s low-cost traffic. In October 2023, WestJet (WS) merged its budget arm, Swoop, into its mainline fleet. Other LCCs serving Canada that have shut down operations are Canada Jetlines (AU) and Lynx Air (Y9).
