‍SYDNEY — QantasLink (QF) has selected the Embraer E190 as the aircraft of choice for a significant fleet upgrade at its regional carrier, Network Aviation, based in Western Australia.

This initiative involves phasing out the existing Fokker F100 aircraft and replacing them with as many as 14 E190s. Qantas is currently evaluating different avenues to acquire mid-life E190 jets, with the first delivery expected by late 2026.

“This fleet renewal represents a significant investment in the future of our regional aviation capabilities, and our commitment to serving the critical resources sector and regional communities in Western Australia. The E190 is a proven platform that operates across Australia today and will deliver improved operational efficiency and reliability, while also creating opportunities for our people in the West.” QantasLink Chief Executive Officer Rachel Yangoyan said.

A320 Deployment Speeds Up F100 Retirement

In a complementary move, Qantas recently announced that Network Aviation will also receive four Airbus A320 aircraft from Jetstar Asia. These aircraft are scheduled to enter service before the end of 2025 and will enable the early retirement of four F100s, accelerating the modernization timeline.

The introduction of the Embraer 190 and Airbus A320 into QantasLink’s Network Aviation fleet isn’t just a fleet refresh; it’s a strategic move toward greater fuel efficiency and sustainability. Compared to the aging Fokker F100s, the E190 and A320 offer significantly improved fuel economy, thanks to their modern aerodynamic design, lighter airframe, and more efficient engines.

For QantasLink, this translates into lower operating costs, reduced carbon emissions, and better alignment with the airline’s broader sustainability goals. It also enhances the airline’s ability to serve regional routes more economically.
