THAI Airways Shows Off New Seats, Products, Catering

DALLAS — THAI Airways International (TG) unveiled several new offerings in a grand ceremony called “The New Worlds of Tomorrow” held in the Thai capital in celebration of the airline’s 65th year of operations. Mr Chai Eamsiri, CEO of the airline, who Airways exclusively interviewed in March, was present at the event.

These new products and improvements were categorized into two sections: “The New Worlds of Travel Comfort”, which focuses on TG’s hard product, and “The New Worlds of Insight and Hospitality”, which includes catering, amenity kits, and the inflight magazines.

2025 has been an optimistic year for the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Thailand, not only does it turn 65, but in July it will return to the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and in November it will take delivery of its very first Airbus A321neo. These positive changes have prompted the airline to introduce a new tagline: “Grace to Growth”.

New Worlds of Travel Comfort

In November, Thai Airways is due to receive the first of its highly anticipated A321neo fleet. The A321neos will be equipped with a two-class cabin. 16 lie-flat Business class “Vantage” seats from Thompson Aero Seating will be arranged in a 2-1, 1-2 configuration, with a “throne” seat in every row. Each seat will feature a touchscreen in-flight entertainment (IFE) system and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Economy class cabin will feature the standard 3-3 layout, with each seat also equipped with a large IFE touchscreen, purple patterned padding, and a contrasting gray adjustable headrest. These seats can already be found on a few of TG’s retrofitted A320 aircraft.

New Worlds of Insight and Hospitality

In 1971, THAI published the first issue of its in-flight “Sawasdee” magazine. Upon the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sawasdee ceased to exist in its print version to decrease points of contact and the spread of disease, and became an online magazine instead. However, the magazine is making a comeback in its print form and will reappear in the seat pockets once again.

Not only is the magazine getting an upgrade, but so are the amenity kits. In addition to the existing La Mer amenity kits for First Class and Jim Thompson amenity kits for Business (Royal Silk) class, the airline has partnered with a new brand for passengers to enjoy.

Starting May 1, 2025, SIRIVANNAVARI, a premium fashion brand founded by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari of Thailand, will provide amenity kits for the airline’s Royal Silk Class passengers on flights to Milan, Paris, Tokyo, and Shanghai. Inside the colourful bags featuring Thai cultural elements, you will find hand cream, a bamboo toothbrush, earplugs, toothpaste, lip balm, an eye mask, and deodorant.

Last October, Thai Airways officially launched its “Streets to Sky” initiative, where Economy class passengers were served meals prepared by locally renowned Thai restaurants. This program is being expanded and will be joined by a new one, called “Taste of Thai Tales”, which brings Economy class passengers Thai street food meals curated by several famous Thai restaurants such as Pad Thai from Thipsamai, chicken stew with rice from Ros Dee Ded, and stir-fried noodles from Michelin star street food chef Jay Fai.

For this event, the airline has launched a new culinary campaign, named “Good Taste for a Good Cause.” Passengers will be able to enjoy dishes prepared from locally sourced ingredients, as well as snacks and dishes created by Thai businesses.

These include new Thai Airways rice crackers (Wasabi, Parmesan, and Sauerkraut flavor), Look Jub TG (fruit-shaped mung bean sweets), KanVela chocolate, two selections of coffee from Doi Tung, and buns from After You Dessert Café.

Passengers travelling in premium cabins will get to enjoy two new beverages: “Rose of the Royal Voyage” and “Oriental Dawn”. Another new addition to Thai’s catering service will be 10g of caviar, now available for Royal Silk class passengers, as well as 30g of caviar for First class passengers.
