DALLAS — Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, reports have emerged of Iran activating its air defense systems and suspending flights in and out of Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz. Flights overflying Iranian airspace have also been re-routed.

According to Iranian state media, explosions were reported in Isfahan, with Isfahan International Airport (IFN) appearing to be a primary focus of the airstrike. IFN is a civilian and military airport where the 8th Tactical Airbase of the Iranian Air Force is located.

Established in 1976, the Isfahan province belongs to the Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO). Located at Shahin Shahr, the province is believed to be where Iran manufactures its drones used in Saturday's airstrike against Israel.

American Airlines (AA) flight AA293, Emirates (EK) flight EK979, and Turkish Airlines (TK) flight TK870 are some of the routes that have been rerouted. The situation remains fluid as both Iran and Israel engage in an unprecedented tit for tat.
