DALLAS — Etihad Airways (EY) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET) have inked a codeshare agreement, strengthening connectivity between Africa, and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The bilateral partnership will enhance global travel opportunities for passengers.
“By leveraging our combined networks, we are unlocking seamless travel opportunities between Africa and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Easy connections via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa, will enhance flexibility, boosting trade and tourism, and delivering unparalleled travel experiences to guests of both airlines,” said Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer.
Etihad will start flying from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on 15 July, and EY will introduce daily flights to ADD on 8 October. This is the first step toward implementing the joint venture agreed upon between the carriers.
Codeshare Expands Connectivity
As part of its commitment to meeting Africa’s growing demand for air travel, EY will significantly expand its route network in 2025, introducing new destinations and increasing frequencies to strengthen connections across the continent.
Meanwhile, passengers will also gain access to ET’s extensive African network, with connections via ADD to 55 destinations across 33 countries, including Entebbe (EBB), Kinshasa (FIH), Kigali (KGL), Lusaka (LUN), Harare (HRE) and Victoria Falls (VFA), thereby expanding travel options across the continent.
Etinad passengers can also book itineraries connecting to EY-operated flights through AUH, with onward service to 20 key destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, as well as Sydney (SYD), Krabi (KBV), Colombo (CMB), and Phnom Penh (PNH).
The codeshare allows passengers to simplify their journeys by making a single booking with a single check-in process at the start, and the added convenience of having their baggage transferred to their final destination.
