ANA Upgrades Its Business Class with THE ROOM FX

PARIS — The second day of the Paris Air Show 2025 started with the reveal of a new Business class at Safran’s booth. All Nippon Airways (ANA) developed the new cabin in collaboration with French leading seat manufacturer Safran Seats and British design company Acumen.

Building on the success and design principles of 'THE ROOM' seat from its Boeing 777-300ER, ANA introduced “THE ROOM FX,” an upgraded product designed to deliver a premium customer experience.

'FX' stands for Future Experience, and the new seat enhances comfort with more spacious seating positions, increased personal storage, and a class-leading bed size for ultimate luxury.

ANA is set to gradually introduce the new cabin in the Boeing 787-9 from 2026 on major long-haul international routes.

“This seat represents our commitment to exceeding expectations and shaping the future of luxury flight.”, said Tomoji Ishii, Executive Vice President, Customer Experience of ANA. “This new business class seat represents a step-change in comfort, versatility, and innovative design for the Boeing 787-9.”, added Victoria Foy, President and CEO of Safran Seats.

What's New in 'THE ROOM FX'

'THE ROOM FX' is born from the development experience of the current 'THE ROOM' cabin. The redesigned cabin in the Boeing 787-9 consists of 48 Business class seats with 1-2-1 configuration like a ‘Ying Yang’, 21 Premium Economy seats with 2-3-2 configuration, 137 seats with 3-3-3 configuration.

The most significant addition to the Business Class cabin is the privacy door. Each seat features a slim door and a curvy backrest area, arranged in an alternating front- and rear-facing layout. One potential drawback is that the seats do not recline into a lounge-style position, unlike some of their competitors' products.

The new seats are wider than the current model, with a backrest that transforms into a sofa-like configuration, allowing passengers to relax in multiple positions, much like a living room. The seat can then be fully extended into a flat bed. It offers a pitch of 103 inches and a seat width of 27 inches at the waist, expanding up to 41.5 inches at its widest point.

The monitor is 1.4 times larger than the current size, offering ample storage space, Bluetooth audio connectivity, and support for USB-C and wireless charging. The entire cabin, despite its upgraded technical systems and privacy doors, has a weight comparable to that of the current Boeing 787-9 business class seat.
