DALLAS – Russia’s Aeroflot (SU) is set to commence direct services between Moscow (SVO) and Bali (DPS) this month.
Russia’s national carrier will initially offer two weekly flights between SVO and DPS. However, from October 3, the service will increase to three times weekly.
Flights will be operated with an Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which can seat up to 316 passengers. The widebody aircraft will offer three cabins. According to data provided by airline analytics platform Cirium, these flights will offer 28 seats in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy, and 264 seats in Economy.
Since the reopening of international borders after the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been no direct flight services from Russia to Bali. Before the pandemic, Aeroflot Group operated regular flights to Bali.
Outbound flights (SU 296) are set to operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The flight will depart Sheremetyevo Alexander S Pushkin International Airport (SVO) at 14.40 (local time) and arrive at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport (DPS) at 08.05 the following morning (local time).
The return flight (SU 297) will depart DPS on Wednesday and Sunday at 10.05 (local time) and arrive at SVO the same day at 17.55 (local time).
Building Ties with Indonesia
Russia will also establish a diplomatic presence on the island of Bali before the end of the year. With the launch of this new direct flight from Russia to Bali and a new Consulate General for the Russian Federation set to open in Bali in late 2024, the relationship between the two destinations appears to be strengthening.
Russia’s airlines have been limited in their flight operations due to sanctions imposed by numerous countries in late 2022.
With Russians experiencing red tape in traveling to several destinations, countries like Indonesia, which allow visa-free entry to Russian nationals, are set to see increased numbers of Russian visitors. These direct flights will help facilitate increased tourist flows and cargo movements between Russia and Bali.
This new SU flight will join DPS’ weekly operations comprising 36 international flight routes served by 39 airlines. DPS also offers 22 domestic flight routes served by 11 airlines.
