MEXICO CITY — Aeroméxico (AM) could announce new U.S. routes as soon as next week, CEO Andrés Conesa said on October 20, according to Reuters' report on the airline's expansion plans. The first services could begin in early 2027.
Speaking to journalists at the Latin American & Caribbean Air Transport Association conference in Mexico City, Conesa said the carrier was evaluating destinations and would name them once permits and airport slots were secured. A further group of routes could begin operating around mid-2027.
Mexico's government said on October 16 that the U.S. Department of Transportation had lifted restrictions on new flights from Mexico City-Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) and Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) to the United States, effective immediately.
The decision reopens the possibility of adding routes and frequencies from both airports, according to the joint statement from Mexico's transport and foreign ministries. Aeroméxico still needs to secure permits and slots before naming its destinations, Conesa said.
He identified San Juan, Puerto Rico, as a likely return, although he said the cruise season made the second half of 2027 more likely.
Conesa also said Aeroméxico now expects to resume Caracas flights in the first quarter of 2027. Airways reported in May that the carrier was targeting October 2026, subject to government approval.
