WASHINGTON, DC — Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA) will partner with America250, an organization established by the U.S. Congress to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and, effectively, the creation of America, and will be an official sponsor of the United States Semiquincentennial celebration.
“We are honored to join the nation in celebrating 250 years of American Independence,” said Caroline Clayton, AA’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Our history is deeply intertwined with the country’s own story – one of ingenuity, resilience, and a belief in connecting people and places makes us stronger,” she said, referring to AA’s own centennial celebration this year.
A joint anniversary celebration
The airline was founded in 1926 as an air mail airline in the Midwestern United States and has grown to be America’s largest airline by fleet size, with approximately 975 mainline aircraft in service.
Rosie Rios, Chair of America250, praised AA for spending “100 years connecting our nation and showcasing the spirit of innovation that defines the United States.” She added, “As we approach the historic 250th anniversary, their [American’s] reach and leadership will help bring Americans together across cities, states, and generations.”
As part of the celebration, the carrier will paint two aircraft with a special America250 livery, ensuring the celebration literally “takes flight across the country and around the world.”
In addition, AA will serve as the official airline of America Innovates, a traveling exhibition that highlights the nation’s ingenuity and pioneering spirit over its first 250 years.
Details about AA’s partnership with America250, celebration events, and the commemorative liveries will be announced in the coming months.
