DHAKA — Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) has signed a firm order for four Airbus A350-900s and six A321neos, Airbus announced on October 7.
Airbus said the ten aircraft would support the Bangladeshi flag carrier's international expansion from its Dhaka hub, including plans to serve North America and destinations across Europe and the Middle East. The release does not identify specific routes or assign them to either aircraft type.
The purchase adds Airbus widebody and single-aisle aircraft to a fleet expansion that already includes Boeing jets. On September 23, Boeing announced an order for five 787-10s and six 737-8s, bringing Biman's Boeing orders this year to 25 aircraft.
Boeing's September announcement said Biman already operates 787s, 777s, and 737 Next-Generation aircraft.
Earlier Airbus discussions involved a different proposed mix. Airways reported in May 2023 that Biman was considering eight passenger aircraft and two freighters, with the details still unconfirmed. The October 7 firm order covers passenger aircraft only.
Airbus's announcement does not specify delivery dates, cabin configurations, or the purchase price, leaving the timetable for introducing the new aircraft unclear.
