Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Breaks Ground for New TF

DALLAS — Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) broke ground on a US$1.6 billion project to add a sixth passenger terminal, Terminal F, with a targeted opening of 2027. TF is DFW's first new terminal in nearly 20 years.

Spanning 400,000 ft.2, Terminal F will also expand Terminal E by 100,000 ft.2, providing check-in, security, and baggage claim facilities for passengers using TF, which will also have advanced technology for faster baggage handling and TSA screening.

Modular construction techniques will ensure efficient terminal development and the airport's Skylink will connect all six terminals.

Passengers “using Terminal F will check in at Terminal E and connect between both facilities with a quick one-terminal transfer via the airport’s Skylink system, which will welcome a new station above Terminal F,” DFW said.

The Terminal F groundbreaking comes after DFW began construction on a US$3 billion project to rebuild Terminal C, the busiest of American Airlines’ (AA) five terminals. The Terminal C rebuild, which also expands Terminal A, will add nine gates in phases, with completion expected in 2030.

Terminal F will have 15 gates and is designed to accommodate more. The airport has 171 gates across its five terminals, with seven runways.

DFW Passenger Traffic, Projections

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport began operations 50 years ago, on Jan. 13, 1974. Today, the airport boasts impressive passenger numbers and future growth:

• Projected to see a record 90 million passengers in 2024
• Expected to serve 100 million passengers by 2028
• Currently the third busiest airport in the world for passenger traffic

The aiport expects its busiest Thanksgiving travel season yet, with an anticipated 3.1 million travelers from Nov. 21 to Dec. 3, a 5.4% increase from the same period last year.
