DOT Approves New Long-Distance Routes from DCA

DALLAS — The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has officially approved five new long-distance routes from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), providing travelers with expanded flight options nationwide.

These routes, greenlit as part of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) reauthorization bill, aim to enhance connectivity between Washington, D.C. and key destinations for the nation.

New Nonstop Routes, Launch Dates

1. Delta Air Lines - Nonstop service from DCA to Seattle (SEA)
   • Launch Date: March 9, 2025
2. Southwest Airlines - Nonstop service from DCA to Las Vegas (LAS)
   • Launch Date: To be announced
3. Alaska Airlines - Nonstop service from DCA to San Diego (SAN)
   • Launch Date: To be announced
4. American Airlines - Nonstop service from DCA to San Antonio (SAT)
   • Launch Date: March 2, 2025
5. United Airlines - Nonstop service from DCA to San Francisco (SFO)
   • Launch Date: To be announced

It is worth mentioning that AA becomes the only carrier to fly nonstop between Washington, D.C. and San Antonio.

Updated Regulations for Economic Growth

The newly approved DCS routes significantly increase the airport's reach and accommodate the growing demand for coast-to-coast travel options.

Historically, long-haul routes from DCA have been limited due to perimeter rules restricting nonstop flights over 1,250 miles. However, the FAA's updated regulations have made these new routes possible.

Airlines anticipate strong demand for these services, especially given the strategic significance of Washington, D.C., as a destination for government and business travel.

Tickets for these flights will become available through airline websites and ticketing platforms in the coming weeks. Travelers are encouraged to book early to secure seats, as demand for inaugural flights is typically high.
