ROME — Star Alliance has officially welcomed ITA Airways (AZ) as its 26th member, completing the Italian flag carrier’s integration into the world’s largest airline alliance. From April 1, ITA will be fully connected to the Star Alliance network, expanding coverage in Italy through Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Milan Linate (LIN).
Customers will see immediate benefits. Star Alliance and ITA confirm travelers can expect through check-in, reciprocal frequent-flyer recognition, and access to Star Alliance lounges across the network. These changes are designed to streamline connections and reduce friction for itineraries involving multiple member airlines.
Star Alliance reports that 17 member airlines serve ITA’s main Italian gateways, connecting Italy to a global network of over 1,150 destinations. ITA’s membership adds more than 350 daily flights. Eligible customers will also have access to ITA Airways lounges in Rome, Milan, and Catania (CTA) as part of Star Alliance Gold and reciprocal benefits.
The Lufthansa Group mentored the integration, supporting ITA’s onboarding into alliance systems and customer-facing interoperability.
