FRANKFURT — The Lufthansa Group (LH) will offer enhanced global and European cargo connectivity through a combination of dedicated freighter operations and expanded belly cargo capacity for Summer 2026.
This is good news indeed, since the ongoing conflict with Iran has negatively affected both passenger and cargo movements. Traditional shipping lanes have been affected, necessitating alternative cargo routes and driving up forwarding costs.
Strong cargo connectivity
Lufthansa Cargo will operate 87 weekly freighter flights to around 35 worldwide destinations using its fleet of 18 Boeing 777F aircraft.
Asia remains a key focus for LH, with up to 48 weekly connections to 17 destinations. This is in addition to increased transpacific services linking Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Shanghai (SHA), and Los Angeles (LAX). In addition, services to Delhi (DEL) will also be reintroduced.
In the Americas, LH offers 33 weekly connections to 15 destinations. It will also expand its service at Toronto (YYZ).
Within Europe and Africa, Airbus A321 freighters now serve routes including Rome (FCO) and Algiers (ALG), supporting 33 regional connections.
Multi-hub cargo network
A key development in the group is the creation of a six-hub European cargo network, including Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Vienna (VIE), Brussels (BRU), Rome (FCO), and the soon-to-be-added Zurich (ZRH) - enabling enhanced cooperation with SWISS WorldCargo (LX).
Additionally, customers can benefit from belly cargo capacity on up to 7,500 weekly passenger flights operated by group airlines, including Lufthansa Airlines (LH), Austrian Airlines (OS), Brussels Airlines (SN), ITA Airways (AZ), and SunExpress (XQ).
The expanded schedule aims to provide greater flexibility, faster transport times, and improved resilience for global supply chains.
