SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines (AS) plans to begin seasonal nonstop service from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Athens International Airport (ATH) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in May 2027, the airline announced Wednesday.
Seattle–Athens is scheduled to begin May 12, operating three times weekly through October. Seattle–Paris is due to follow on May 25 with five weekly flights through October. Alaska lists Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for both routes; it has assigned flight AS196 to Athens and AS136 to Paris.
The Athens service would be Alaska's first route to Greece and, according to the airline, its longest route. Alaska also says it would become the first carrier to link Seattle and Athens and the only airline flying nonstop between the West Coast and the Greek capital once the service begins. The Paris route would be the first oneworld-operated nonstop linking the West Coast and Paris, Alaska said.
Alaska published the following schedule:
All times are local. Alaska has not published a more precise end date than October 2027.
Athens and Paris would take Alaska's Seattle intercontinental network to seven destinations, alongside Reykjavík, London Heathrow, Rome, Seoul Incheon and Tokyo Narita. The airline said travelers could make same-day connections between Honolulu and Paris through Seattle, extending the new route's usefulness beyond the Pacific Northwest.
Alaska has set a goal of at least 12 long-haul international destinations from Seattle by 2030. Its January fleet announcement said the plan would ultimately be supported by a fleet of 17 Boeing 787s—seven 787-9s and 10 787-10s. Its sixth 787-9 is due later this year, followed by the final -9 in 2027, while the first four 787-10s are scheduled for delivery in 2028.
For passengers, the announcement puts the routes on sale more than eight months before the first Athens flight. Alaska said both services will use its international business-class Suites product and that Starlink Wi-Fi installation across the Alaska and Hawaiian fleets is continuing through 2027.
