KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian carrier Berjaya Air (J8) took delivery of the world's first ATR 72-600 in ATR's new HighLine all-business class configuration on May 20, marking a dual milestone for both the Malaysian carrier and the Toulouse-based manufacturer.
The aircraft, which received certification from both the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Malaysian aviation authorities earlier this month, features a fully bespoke 26-seat cabin in a 1-by-1 layout, giving every passenger direct aisle access. The handcrafted ETEREA seats by Geven are the widest ever installed on an ATR platform, and overhead bins have been replaced by valence panels to open up the cabin and maximize natural light.

The HighLine configuration eliminates the overhead bin entirely in favor of an executive-style ceiling design, creating interior volume, ATR says, comparable to that of the world's largest private aircraft. Each seat features a personal side console with integrated stowage. The cabin is designed to blend the efficiency of turboprop operations with a semi-private flying experience at what Berjaya Air describes as an accessible price point.
Berjaya Air will launch the aircraft on a new route between Subang Airport (SZB) and Koh Samui Airport (USM) in the coming days, before expanding the product across a regional network covering Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The airline, which operates out of Subang Airport (SZB), will focus its service on island resort destinations including Redang and Langkawi, with a strong tie to Berjaya Group's hotel and resort portfolio. The aircraft will also be available for charter operations across the Asia-Pacific region.
A second ATR 72-600 in the same all-business class configuration is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026.
