DHAKA — Bangladesh’s national carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG), has placed an order for 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 4 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The order consists of eight Boeing 787-10s and two Boeing 787-9s, with an option for four additional Dreamliners, as well as four Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
“The new fuel-efficient, technologically advanced aircraft will modernize Biman's fleet, sharpen operational performance, and extend its international route network,” said Kaizer Sohel Ahmed, CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
This order is highly significant for BG, as it will more than double the number of widebody aircraft the airline currently operates. According to planespotters.net, Biman’s fleet presently consists of four Boeing 777-300ERs and six Boeing 787s, along with four Boeing 737-800s and five Dash 8-400s.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with its composite structure and bleedless engine architecture, delivers substantial fuel savings over older-generation widebody aircraft. Similarly, the Boeing 737 MAX series offers significant efficiency gains compared to the older 737 Next Generation aircraft currently in BG's fleet.
In an environment of rising global fuel prices, such fuel-efficient aircraft are becoming increasingly critical for airline profitability and sustainability.
With the arrival of these new aircraft, BG will be able to significantly expand its operations, improving both passenger and cargo capacity while enhancing fuel efficiency.
