COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Breeze Airways (MX) will expand its operations outside of the U.S. for the first time in early 2026, launching international service from Norfolk International Airport (ORF) to Cancún International Airport (CUN).
The new route, starting January 10, will operate on Saturdays, marking the airport's first nonstop international link.
A Milestone for ORF
The addition of Cancun marks a breakthrough for the Hampton Roads area, providing consumers with direct access to an international recreational destination without having to travel through larger cities. Introductory prices will start at USD$139 one way.
Expansion Beyond Cancun
After Norfolk's introduction, MX will introduce additional international flights. Charleston (CHS) will have Saturday flights to Cancun from January 17. New Orleans (MSY) and Providence (PVD) will be added in February, and Raleigh-Durham (RDU) will have service to Montego Bay (MBJ) and Punta Cana (PUJ) beginning in March.
Tampa (TPA) will also fly directly to Montego Bay from February 11.
Certification, Strategy
The airline obtained its long-awaited U.S. flag carrier certification this year, becoming the first major U.S. passenger airline to achieve this status since Virgin America in 2007. MX will operate these routes with its Airbus A220-300 aircraft fleet, in line with its strategy of covering markets with low competition levels.
The expansion into international flying marks MX's transition as it begins its fifth year of operations. With aggressive fares oneway and premium seating bookings already showing robust demand, the new routes address both passenger demand and the airline's expansion plans.
