China Southern Airlines Ramps Up Sydney Flights

DALLAS — China Southern Airlines (CZ) will make history with boosted connectivity to Sydney (SYD).

The Guangdong-based airline will operate more scheduled flights between Guangzhou (CAN) and SYD during the upcoming 2025/26 summer peak.

With four flights a day, this will be the airline’s highest frequency ever on the route. According to thewest.co.au, the increased flights will operate from December 13 to February 24.

Weekly services will increase from 21 to 28 scheduled flights. The expansion adds 74 return flights and nearly 44,000 extra seats between CAN and SYD over the season. These flights will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, offering 28 business class seats and 269 economy class seats.

“This enhancement reflects our ongoing commitment to serving the Australian market and meeting growing travel demand between our nations,” said Jason Sun, regional general manager at China Southern Airlines.

Facilitating Passenger Growth

China is an important tourism source country for Australia. Tourist flows between China and Australia are significant. There is also a large number of Chinese students studying at universities in Sydney and other academic institutions across Australia.

The added CZ flights also offer convenient one-stop connections via Guangzhou to major Chinese cities, including Beijing (BJS) and Shanghai (SHA). The additional flights will indeed facilitate increased passenger volumes over the peak holiday season, which is also when many students return to China for their holidays.

Greg Botham, executive aviation growth and group strategy at SYD, said that the airport is proud to continue building Sydney Airport’s role as “Australia’s gateway to China.”

“With China Southern Airlines now flying four times a day to Guangzhou, it means more choice and flexibility for people heading to China and beyond,” Botham said.
