SEATTLE — This week, Alaska Airlines (AS) and Boeing hosted a media event to announce that the Seattle-based airline had placed its largest order ever: 105 Boeing 737-10s with 35 options, along with five additional 787-10 Dreamliners.
At the event, AS unveiled its all-new “Global Livery,” which will be applied to the entire 787 fleet. The first aircraft, N784HA, was delivered from Boeing in December and then painted post-delivery at Fort Worth Meacham International Airport. It was flown to Boeing Field for the announcement and festivities.

The aircraft is the first widebody to bear the Alaska Airlines name and livery since the Hawaiian merger was completed. The plane is painted in a scheme inspired by the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, featuring a palette of deep midnight blues and lush emerald greens that channel the aurora’s energy and the spirit of the Alaska brand.

Alaska leveraged new aircraft painting technology to create this distinctive scheme. Overall, it took artists nearly 1,000 hours over 13 days to paint the aircraft's exterior from nose to tail. As for the other four already-delivered 787s, N780HA-N783HA, they are expected to be painted in the coming months before the carrier launches its new international flights from Seattle.

The aircraft will make its first revenue flight on Thursday, operating as AS823 to Tokyo-Narita Airport, if you would like to track it.
