Norse Atlantic to Wet-Lease Another Two Aircraft to IndiGo

DALLAS — Norse Atlantic Airways (N0) has entered a wet-lease agreement with IndiGo (6E) for two more aircraft.

The agreement increases the number of aircraft N0 will lease to 6E. N0 will lease six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to the Indian Low-cost carrier (LCC), as described in the letter of intent (LOI), published on November 29, 2024.

"This agreement represents an important milestone in our collaboration with IndiGo and reinforces our partnership with one of the world's leading airlines. The wet lease agreement with a total of six aircraft means that we further strengthen our strategic and financial position in a volatile market," said Bjørn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.

Furthermore, the agreement secures additional fixed long-term revenues for Norse Atlantic. It reduces the company’s market risk, following N0’s strategy to create substantial efficiencies through maximum utilization of the aircraft fleet, through demand from ACMI and its scheduled services.

Another Two Norse Aircraft for Indigo

The additional two aircraft are expected to enter service with 6E by early 2026. They will service long-haul routes out of India. The initial term of this agreement is six months, which is extendable up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals.

The commercial terms of the agreement for the additional two aircraft align with what was communicated in the LOI on November 29, last year. Both parties, however, remain committed to exploring opportunities to extend this period. Again, this is subject to regulatory approvals.

The first leased N0 aircraft was delivered to 6E in March. It is already in service. It operates flights between Delhi (DEL) and Bangkok (BKK).

IndiGo is the largest airline of India since its establishment in 2006. It is also the second largest Asian airline and the world's ninth largest airline.

As of April 2025, the airline operates a fleet of narrow-body aircraft consisting of Airbus A320-200, A320neo, A321neo and ATR 72-600 aircraft for passenger operations, and Airbus A321-200/P2F aircraft for cargo operations, making for a total of 409 aircraft.

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
