ASTANA — Air Astana (KC) has launched nonstop flights between Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), further expanding the carrier’s China network.
The new Astana–Guangzhou service began on June 2, 2026, and operates twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays using Airbus A321LR aircraft. The flight time is approximately six hours and 45 minutes.
Second Guangzhou route
The new route complements Air Astana’s existing Almaty (ALA)–Guangzhou service, which began in March 2025 and now operates five times weekly, according to the airline.
Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province in southern China, is one of the country’s largest commercial and industrial centers. For Air Astana, adding service from Astana gives the carrier a second Kazakhstan gateway into one of China’s most important trade and transport regions.
The new flight departs Astana at 18:45 and arrives in Guangzhou at 04:30 local time, according to the carrier’s schedule announcement.
China network reaches record level
Air Astana said the Guangzhou expansion is part of its long-term development of Kazakhstan–China air links, which began with Almaty–Beijing (PEK) service in December 2002.
During the 2026 summer season, the Air Astana Group is increasing frequencies on most of its China routes, including Almaty to Urumqi (URC), Guangzhou, Shanghai Pudong (PVG), Sanya (SYX), and Yining (YIN), as well as Astana to Beijing and Urumqi. The group said Kazakhstan–China flying will reach 51 weekly flights, the highest level in its history.
Earlier this year, Air Astana also highlighted China as a strategic growth market, with plans to further expand its network and deepen Kazakhstan–China connectivity.
Bottom line
For Air Astana, the Astana–Guangzhou route strengthens the airline’s role as a connector between Central Asia and China while supporting growing business, leisure, and transit flows between Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, and Asia.
The A321LR is also the right tool for this market: long enough range for the nearly seven-hour sector, but with narrower-gauge economics than a widebody. That gives Air Astana flexibility to build frequency and test demand without overcommitting capacity.
The broader takeaway is that China has become one of Air Astana’s most important international growth corridors, with the group now operating its largest-ever Kazakhstan–China schedule.
