DUBAI — Air Senegal (HC) has placed an order for nine Boeing 737-8 aircraft, its first for the type, marking the largest aircraft order in the airline’s history. Boeing confirmed the order and announced it at the Dubai Airshow.
The induction of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will allow the carrier to expand its footprint in Europe and launch new routes from Dakar to the Middle East and the Americas. The 737 MAX will also enable HC to serve secondary European cities.
"This order is part of Air Sénégal's strategy to strengthen and modernize its fleet to support the expansion of its regional and intercontinental network and reinforce Dakar's position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa," said chief executive officer Tidiane Ndiaye.
About Air Senegal
Air Senegal (HC) is the flag carrier of Senegal, a West African country. It is a relatively young airline, having commenced operations in 2018, compared with other legacy flag carriers that have been operating for decades. According to planespotters.net, the airline currently operates a small fleet consisting of two ATR 72s, two Airbus A330-900s, and a single A321.
Given this relatively small fleet size, the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 order is particularly significant. The addition of these aircraft will significantly enhance HC capabilities and expand its flight operations.
