CAMBODIA – As of June 6, 2026, Cambodia Airways, the primary carrier for the country of Cambodia, has taken delivery of two ATR 72-600’s, marking the entry of the aircraft type into the airline’s fleet. The first turboprop is scheduled to enter service later this month, with the second expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Operating from the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, Cambodia Airways is the country’s largest airline by passenger traffic and primarily serves tourist flows within Cambodia and across the Southeast Asian region. The aircraft order comes amid increased demand for regional and short-haul travel to neighboring countries, with the ATR 72-600 chosen for its reliability, low emissions, and affordability on these routes.
As Cambodia Airways’ larger fleet of jets primarily serves routes to China and longer routes across the region, the ATR 72-600 is expected to strengthen their network across Southeast Asia and connect destinations that were previously unserved by the airline, making travel through Cambodia and across Southeast Asia easier and more seamless for tourists and residents of the countries alike.
According to a press release from ATR, the manufacturer of the aircraft type, the turboprop boasts 45% lower fuel burn and emits 45% less CO₂ per trip than similarly sized regional jets.
From the press release, it quotes, “ATR turboprops offer superior flexibility and operational efficiency, while ranking among the safest and most comfortable in their class with a quiet, smooth ride and a spacious, modern cabin. This new purchase will enable Cambodia Airways to deliver significant environmental advantages while increasing flight frequencies on domestic and international routes, helping the airline provide quick, reliable, and seamless regional air services to connect tourists to their destinations.”
