DALLAS — This week, China Southern Airlines (CZ) and China Eastern Airlines (MU) inaugurated nonstop routes to Belgrade, Serbia, and Venice, Italy.
China Southern Airlines, Asia's largest airline, inaugurated its first nonstop flights between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Belgrade on September 25, 2024.
The inaugural Boeing 787-9, carrying 296 people, landed at Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG). This route, which operates twice weekly, is the first to use the Dreamliner at the airport regularly.
Furthermore, CZ is collaborating with Air Serbia (JU) to strengthen ties, allowing customers to connect easily through CAN.
From Shanghai to Venice
As for MU, the new Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) route took off on September 26, 2024, with flight MU785 departing from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). The Shanghai Airport Authority and China Eastern held an inaugural celebration at PVG the evening before the maiden trip.
During the ceremony, Mr. Yun QIN, Chairman of the Shanghai Airport Authority, noted the long-standing relationship between Shanghai and Venice airports and their desire to establish closer cooperation through direct air ties.
The Venice service runs thrice a week and provides a more efficient travel option for visitors and business travelers, particularly during the peak National Day vacation season.
These two new nonstop China-to-Europe routes reflect the ongoing relaxation of global travel restrictions. The first promotes trade connections and expands travel possibilities as Serbia's Chinese visitor numbers grow, while the second establishes Venice as a top destination for Chinese tourists and bilateral commerce.
