ABU DHABI — Etihad Airways (EY) has signed a codeshare agreement with Air Cambodia (K6). This partnership will allow EY to expand its presence in Southeast Asia without having to operate additional routes directly, while K6 will benefit from increased passenger traffic through its hub.
“Cambodia is an important and growing market within our network, with increasing demand for travel to and from the destination,” said Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways.
Under the agreement, Etihad’s customers will be able to book flights across Air Cambodia’s (K6) network on a single ticket, with baggage checked through to their final destination, while Air Cambodia’s (K6) customers will also be able to take advantage of Etihad’s vast network, booking flights between Phnom Penh and Abu Dhabi.
Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is a prominent tourist attraction in Cambodia, and this codeshare agreement is expected to make it far more convenient for passengers from Europe and the Middle East to visit.
"Our passengers gain direct access to Abu Dhabi, an important hub for business, trade, and tourism, while Etihad's customers can explore Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. We look forward to welcoming more visitors to discover the wonders of Angkor Wat and beyond," said Eng Molina, Chief Commercial Officer at Air Cambodia.
Codeshare agreements are becoming increasingly important in modern aviation. Without them, passengers would often need to book separate flights, collect and recheck their baggage at transit airports, and face the risk of delays or missed connections, with little coordination between airlines.
Codeshare arrangements, however, make travel significantly more convenient by allowing single-ticket bookings across entire journeys, with baggage automatically checked through to the final destination. In addition, delays and cancellations are managed and coordinated jointly by the partner airlines, ensuring a smoother and more reliable travel experience for passengers.
