DALLAS — According to Aircargonews.net, Japan Airlines (JL) and Kalitta Air (K4) are increasing cargo codesharing, which will increase capacity in the Tokyo Narita–Chicago O'Hare corridor, an expanding market for high-value freighter demand between Asia and North America.
JAL's capacity to transport technology components, chemicals, and expedited goods is strengthened by the enlarged arrangement, which builds on the carriers' original collaboration that was introduced earlier this year.
Increased Frequencies to Support Key Cargo Flows
Japan Airlines and K4 initially introduced their NRT–ORD cargo codeshare in May, allowing JL to complement its network with larger freighters. Effective December 10, the route will increase from three to five weekly flights with the 777-300ER.
The uplift supports growing transpacific demand as JL ramps up its renewed freighter strategy, having returned to dedicated cargo aircraft in 2024 after a 13-year hiatus. Current fleet data indicate that JL operates three 767-300Fs, with an additional 777-300F scheduled to join operations under K4.
Operational Schedule Aircraft Deployment
All cargo flights will continue to make technical stops at Anchorage (ANC). The schedule will adjust seasonally, with 777-300ERSF operations continuing into winter and 747-400F aircraft deployed from May.
