DALLAS — On July 1, 2025, Oman Air (WY) officially joined the oneworld alliance. Since then, WY has rapidly expanded its network, signing codeshare agreements with alliance airlines and boosting traffic to newly opened markets.
Thanks to the new airline membership, Oman Air has increased revenue streams, resulting from new or more competitive Interline fares with oneworld partners. Improving the point-to-point traffic to Oman remains a key deliverable in WY’s transformation, and code-share agreements will enable a better utilization of WY’s network.
With the exception of China, Taiwan, and Japan, WY now codeshares on most Malaysia Airlines (MH) flights. Oman Air is aiming to complete several more partnerships in 2026. Code share targets include Finnair (AY), Cathay Pacific (CX), Japan Airlines (JL), and Qantas (QF).
Code-sharing with AY is awaiting the Finnish carrier's internal revenue assessment and will likely revolve around flights from Helsinki (HEL) to the GCC. WY is targeting the implementation of the new code-sharing with CX by 4Q26, while the agreement with JL is pending regulatory approval.
One additional partnership, key to unlock more travel to North America, will be discussed with American Airlines (AA) once Oman receives FAA Cat 1 status.
Importantly, WY is observing demand to/from Australia, thanks to the agreement with MH via Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Oman Air’s agreement with Australia’s national carrier, Qantas (QF), is delayed because QF has already partnered with Emirates (EK) in the region, posing challenges. In July, WY will resume its flight to Singapore Changi (SIN), QF’s largest hub outside Australia.
While Oman Air is not interested in operating direct or non-stop connections to North America, the airline has added a second flight to London Heathrow, allowing passengers to connect in the morning to destinations in the US and Canada through British Airways’ (BA) network.
Oman Air’s loyalty program remains a work in progress; however, its existing Sindbad Gold & Silver status holders are now recognized as oneworld Sapphire & Ruby across the oneworld network.
Eligible customers have access to premium lounge space at oneworld hubs, including London, Amsterdam, Doha & Kuala Lumpur.
