DALLAS – Iceland’s PLAY Airlines (OG) is set to operate a number of flights between Reykjavik (KEF) and Cardiff (CWL) this winter.
The Icelandic low-cost carrier (LCC) will offer a limited flight schedule between CWL in Wales and KEF. These services will operate between October 10 and November 20 this year. Operating twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, the inaugural flight is scheduled for October 10, 2024, with the final flight departing on November 20.
The six-week period coincides with school holidays at the end of October. As well as being school holidays, this period is an ideal time for viewing the Aurora Borealis. According to the Iceland’s tourism authority, the best time to see the northern lights in Iceland is from September to mid-April, between 21.00 and 02.00, and particularly around midnight.
Flying to North America
The Reykjavik-based carrier operates flights to Canada and the USA. OG is known for its bargain fares when flying between Europe and North America. Many travellers opt to fly with OG as the airline offers reasonable stopover options for passengers on connecting flights.
Connecting passengers may stop in the country for up to 10 days without additional fare costs. In January, PLAY announced self-bookable stopover deals in Iceland on transatlantic routes to North America. This is an attractive option for travellers who wish to explore the treasures of Iceland while flying to or from Europe or North America.
"I am confident that our Cardiff route will be well received. We boast a world-class on-time performance of 83% in 2023, the youngest aircraft fleet in Europe, and our cabin crew was voted the best by the readers of USA Today 10Best. Those who choose to fly with us will have a safe, reliable, and enjoyable travel experience to their destination," says Einar Örn Ólafsson, PLAY´s CEO.
