LUANDA — TAAG Angola Airlines (DT) has been granted approval to operate flights into Europe with its 787 aircraft.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has authorized DT to operate services in European airspace with its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
"EASA's authorisation for the operation of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in Europe represents an important recognition of the technical, operational, and regulatory compliance work that TAAG has been carrying out," said TAAG Chairman Clóvis Rosa.
Approved for European airspace
The authorization follows DT's new aircraft, completing the standard certification and technical oversight process required for airlines operating to destinations within the European Union.
The Luanda-based (LAD) airline currently operates double-daily flights between LAD and Lisbon (LIS) using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The 787 Dreamliners will replace the older 777s operating DT flights to Portugal.
TAAG also operates scheduled flights to São Paulo (GRU) and Guangzhou (CAN) using 787 aircraft. Flights to GRU operate 4 times a week, while flights to CAN are operated once a week.
By deploying the 787 to Europe, DT seeks to improve the passenger experience and increase the competitiveness of its product on its European flights.
The certification also supports DT's fleet modernization program, while reaffirming its compliance with safety and operational regulations. The airline's current fleet includes five Boeing 777-300ERs, two Boeing 787-10s, two Boeing 787-9s, six Airbus A220-300s, six DHC-8-400s, five Boeing 737-700s, and a Boeing 737-800SF.
