BUENOS AIRES — Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR) is set to expand its fleet with the addition of four Airbus A330neo aircraft and 14 Boeing 737 MAX jets, including both the MAX 9 and MAX 10 variants.
Although the order includes the 737 MAX 10, the aircraft is still undergoing FAA certification and has not yet been approved for commercial service. AR expects deliveries to begin once Boeing completes the required testing and regulatory work, meaning the MAX 10's entry into service may take longer than the MAX 9's.
The move marks one of the airline’s larger fleet modernization steps in recent years, aimed at improving efficiency across both long-haul and regional operations. Alongside the new aircraft, the airline has also outlined an investment of over USD 65 million for cabin retrofits and upgraded in-flight connectivity systems.
The incoming aircraft will join the airline through operating leases, and Aerolíneas says it will be handling the financing itself without relying on additional state support. This is part of the carrier’s ongoing effort to present a more sustainable financial outlook while continuing to improve its product and fleet.
Current Fleet of Aerolíneas Argentinas
According to planespotters.net, the airline currently operates 10 Airbus A330ceo aircraft, all of them the A330-200 variant. Its narrowbody fleet consists of 35 Boeing 737s, including several 737 MAX 8 units, along with 20 Embraer ERJ-190s for shorter regional routes.
Given this fleet structure, choosing the A330neo and additional 737 MAX aircraft is a logical step. Both types align well with the airline's existing fleet, making crew training and maintenance transitions smoother and less costly. This continuity also helps the carrier maintain operational reliability while gradually phasing in newer, more fuel-efficient models.
