Air Europa Cancels Caracas Flights Through Mid-February

MALLORCA — Spanish carrier Air Europa (UX) has extended the suspension of its flights between Madrid (MAD) and Caracas (CCS) due to the ongoing situation in Venezuela.

According to the airline’s notice:

  • Flights UX071 (Madrid to Caracas) and UX072 (Caracas → Madrid) are cancelled from February 1 through February 14, 2026, inclusive.

Passengers affected by these cancellations are being offered several options:

  • Free date change in the same cabin for travel up to March 31, 2026.
  • Free route change in the same cabin via Medellín (MDE), Bogotá (BOG), or Panama City (PTY) for travel within 14 days of the original departure date.
  • A refundable voucher for future travel if travel dates are uncertain.
  • A full refund of the ticket if preferred.

Why Flights to Caracas Are Being Cancelled

Air Europa's cancellation isn’t happening in a vacuum. Over the past several months, several international airlines have suspended or cancelled flights to Venezuela due to security concerns and ongoing geopolitical tensions:

  • In late 2025, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a warning advising airlines about a “potentially hazardous situation” for flights operating in or near Venezuelan airspace following increased military activity and regional tensions. This triggered a wave of route suspensions by carriers including UX, IB, Avianca (AV), Gol (G3), TAP Air Portugal (TP), and others.
  • Venezuelan authorities reportedly revoked operating permits for several international airlines after those carriers halted services, further complicating efforts to maintain commercial links.
  • Spanish carriers such as UX, IB, and Plus Ultra (PU) extended their service suspensions into early 2026, citing volatile conditions and safety advisories issued by aviation authorities.

Although the Venezuelan airspace hasn’t been officially declared closed by all regulators, airlines have taken a cautious stance, prioritizing crew and passenger safety amid airspace warnings and regional instability.
