TOULOUSE — French aircraft manufacturer ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) announced that Singapore-based aircraft lessor Avation PLC will acquire five additional ATR-72-600 regional turboprop aircraft as part of a long-term purchase framework.
Once delivered, these aircraft will be the 50th through 54th ATR aircraft for Avation to date. Delivery is expected to occur in the 2028-2029 timeframe.
The Singapore-based lessor reinforces its long-term partnership with ATR, reaching 54 net firm aircraft ordered to date.“
These aircraft expand Avation’s existing order book by converting five purchase rights into firm orders. The ATR 72‑600 is widely recognised as the most fuel-efficient regional aircraft, offering the lowest seat‑mile cost in regional aviation and significantly lower operating costs than comparable aircraft. It is the ideal platform for regional route operations,” said Avation Executive Chairman Jeff Chatfield.
Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, ATR Chief Executive Officer, noted: “Avation’s renewed confidence is especially meaningful because lessors play a pivotal role in expanding the ATR community. Many airlines first experience the performance and economics of our aircraft through leasing, and in countless cases this has led them to later invest in their own fleet of brand‑new ATRs.”
Avation partnership with ATR continues its long history of growth
Avation, a commercial passenger aircraft leasing company, began its relationship with ATR in 2011, and that relationship has steadily expanded and matured over time. Avation has built a significant turboprop portfolio of 27 ATRs, placed with operators worldwide.
The ATR 72-600 comes in two variants: a 72-passenger model and a freighter version used by regional operators. Avation leases widebody, narrowbody, jet, and turboprop aircraft to 16 airlines worldwide, primarily in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.
Avation’s ATR customers include Mandarin Airlines (AE) from the Republic of China, PNG Air (CG) from Papua New Guinea, and Fiji Link, the domestic subsidiary of Fiji Airways (FJ).
