flydubai Resumes Damascus Route After a 12-Year Hiatus

DALLAS – flydubai (FZ) announced the resumption of flights to Damascus after 12 years of discontinuation. The Dubai-based airline organized all necessary operational requirements to leverage Eid Al Adha's flying season and the summer travel period.

Starting June 1, 2025, flydubai will operate daily flights to Damascus International Airport (DAM), departing from Terminal 2 in Dubai International Airport (DXB).

“The relaunch of flights to Damascus will enable passengers from the UAE and around the network to enjoy convenient travel options to the market after working closely with the relevant authorities,” said Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President at flydubai.

The carrier flies to more than 130 destinations in 56 countries, operating a fleet of 89 aircraft. This will ease access to the people of Syria scattered around the world who were struggling to visit their homeland.

Damascus International Airport: A Decade of Isolation

With the assistance of an international technical team, the Airport was renovated for safe air transport operations. It had been severely damaged during the civil turmoil. In February 2025, the team also provided X-ray machines and security detection devices.

About five international airlines fly to (DAM), in addition to two local airlines, Cham Wings (6Q) and Syrian Air (RB). According to officials, all joining airlines will also help sustain air transport in the country, as RB currently operates only two aircraft.

This month, the US and the EU removed the economic sanctions on Syria, which should encourage more airline operations.
